Art

At Bracken Leas, we believe that Art should be taught to encourage creativity, inspire imagination and foster unique styles of Art.
We strive to engage, facilitate and challenge our children in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills required to experiment, invent and create their own pieces of work. Children are carefully guided through the processes necessary to create their pieces of artwork. Once a term, the children throughout school, work towards a collaborative display of Art to enhance our creative learning environment.
There are many opportunities for the children to be curious and explore a range of media, materials and tools in which their skills develop throughout their creative journey at Bracken Leas. As the children progress, they will begin to think critically, edit and uplevel work and develop an understanding and respect for how Art and Design can reflect our culture and the culture of others'. Children through the school will also develop respect and appreciation of art and artists both modern and classical and where possible, linking this to the community, our locality as well as the wider world.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated Art teacher for all year groups and, teaching in a well-resourced Art Room. We believe that being in a designated Art Room inspires children’s creativity and allows them to work more freely. We encourage an ethos which fosters resilience, determination, co-operation and confidence through the journey that their unit of work allows. We dedicate time for teaching the skills for both 2D and 3D styles of art so that children can experience and create both small scale art and larger pieces of work.
Children are made aware of the Health and Safety elements applicable to the tools, materials and techniques that they are using, which will secure a safe working environment, safe for both adults and children.
At Bracken Leas we aim to embed our school ethos of Achieve, Believe, Learn and Enjoy by supporting our children through the journey in the subject of Art.
Through their journey in Bracken Leas, the children will be exposed to and immersed in a range of art experiences both in class and through extra-curricular activities which builds their curiosity, appreciation and enjoyment in this creative area of the curriculum. The children will learn about a wide range of artists, locally and around the world with the aim to develop creative minds in order for them to explore the many genres of art. The children understand that we want them to work to the very best of their ability and they are always proud when their pieces of work are displayed around the school and in wider exhibitions within the locality. We encourage the children to think critically, respond positively and enjoy being immersed with such experiences.
