Music
At Bracken Leas Primary School, we aim to deliver a high-quality Music curriculum where children will gain a firm understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. Singing is the golden thread of music through the school.
Our objective at Bracken Leas is to develop a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music. Children will develop an unbiased respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person’s life. We are committed to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community, and can use their musical skills, knowledge, and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts. Children have the opportunity to join the school band, singing club and performing arts club to enhance their musical journey.
At the end of their journey with us, all children will have developed their love of music having learnt to sing, play an instrument and create music together. They will have had the opportunity to progress their interests and talents and perform on numerous occasions to different audiences.
The children will participate in a wide range of musical experiences, building up their confidence playing different instruments. They will develop their understanding of how music is structured, as well as learning technical vocabulary for musical elements. As the children’s confidence builds, they will enjoy the performance aspect of music and participate in concerts to parents and the wider community. Children are exposed to music daily both in their classrooms and in assemblies, and experience listening to music from a wide variety of different genres, cultures and eras. They are encouraged to respond to the music and discuss how it makes them feel.
