Curriculum Intent

At Bracken Leas we believe that it is crucial that every young person has the opportunity to be exposed to PE in order to offer them the opportunity to be inspired and foster a lifelong love and appreciation of sport and exercise.

Thus, allowing the young person to develop a healthy and active lifestyle, and instil skills of teamwork, communication, empathy, how to win and lose and the ability to build relationships with others.

Our aim is to offer a high-quality Physical Education curriculum which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness, as well as opportunities to compete in sport and other activities to build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

We believe that all children at Bracken Leas should have the opportunity to represent the school in a sporting event every year. We offer a broad range of events: competitive, inclusive, skills based and participation.

Implementation
Our PE curriculum is taught using PE Passport, which is in-line with the National Curriculum. This is a platform that allows us to plan, assess and track progress in our lessons.  We deliver active, high quality and enjoyable lessons throughout the school.  The curriculum is designed to cover a variety of activities: team sports, individual pursuits, gymnastics, dance, outdoor adventures activities and swimming.

As well as 2 hours of PE a week, children have access to the daily mile track and timetabled activities for lunch times if they wish to make use of them.  These include, table tennis, penalty shoot-outs, basketball shots and active sessions in the MUGA.

There are a wide range of extra-curricular sporting clubs available each term.  Some of these are offered in by school staff and the others by external providers.
From Key Stage 2, the children have lessons at the local swimming pool.
