Mobile Phone Home-School Agreement
At Bracken Leas we are committed to keeping all pupils safe and as such we are implementing a new policy around the use of mobile phones and wearable technology devices by children in school. As such no children from EYFS to Year 4 should bring any devices to school and children in Years 5 and 6 should only bring a mobile device once the home school agreement has been signed by both you and your child. It is important that part of signing this agreement is a discussion with your child about appropriate phone use and what the agreement means.
MOBILE PHONE HOME-SCHOOL AGREEMENT
At all times in years Reception to Year 4, our school policy is that pupils may not bring mobile phones, air tags/gps tracking devices or ‘smart watches’ and similar devices to school. Mobile phones and some smart watches have the facility to take photos and/or video as well as enabling unmonitored access to the internet. As a school, this presents a huge safeguarding challenge – something that at Bracken Leas Primary school, we take very seriously.
We do appreciate however, that for some children in Years 5 and 6 who are building their independence and walk or cycle to or from school unaccompanied parents may wish their child to have a mobile phone. In this circumstance only, and at the discretion of the Head Teacher, we may allow a child to bring a mobile phone to school under the conditions set out in the attached home school agreement.
Mobile phones/smart watches/air tags MUST not be brought by any child on residential visits, school trips or other school functions (e.g. school discos).
